Doing terrain and grass need help

Hey,

So I took a little break but I'm getting there now after a break most of it is done however i need to do the terrain and spruce it up a little bit so it's less dull and boring. I'm trying to think how to go about doing it I've tried with planes and modelling around the track this may be the way to go but it's obviously very time consuming and hard to get it incredibly accurate around the track. I'm not really sure about it I can't think about any other way.

Can someone help me out cheers :)

Unless you have RTB, you could maybe:
- try this tool
- browse through these for ideas
- or go the whole 9 yards with the help of these tuts
- if you just one "some" terrain, maybe use a displacement map of some sort to randomly generate

that kml plugin is same as rtb effectively. rtb is fantastic, but when it comes to height its not fantastic at all. you probably find that out with pats acres. in some respects its worse than having no data at all.

ONE thing I learned lately is there is nothing better than hard labour with polygons and vertices. no amount of scripts processes and lets speed it thoughts actually works fundamentally for track making. some can find the key to efficiency, but also real quality comes from touching every part of it. understanding it and working with it.

kind of like sanding a piece of wood down rather than cutting it down with a saw.

I do have rtb can you import max tracks into rtb? I never knew you could do that that's why i didn't list it as an option basically I want to create a sort of decently sized rectangle with a better grass texture so it looks more high quality :)

I can't complain at the elevation and the google map i did pull out of rtb what so ever I think it's great personally :) it's just the terrain is very dull and boring.

most terrain is dull and boring, its what is in between that and your car that counts, imagine how shit Silverstone must look with just a track layed on some grass

texture quality comes from all sorts of things, but its the shader that make it a realistic road. multilayer Fresnel nm

Yeah but i wanted to add an actual grass texture to it that's all, so it's not just a flat google map and do it in a rectangular section around the track and a bit of surrounding area :)

ok. use the multilayer shader, the shader gives a blend of your choice of grass texture with your choice of diffuse over the whole scenery.
