So after having a go at modelling a couple of Kart Tracks (Daytona Milton Keynes and Daytona Sandown Park), I've decided to start modelling the home of Michael Schumacher, Kart-Club Kerpen.

So far all I've done is bring in the Google Maps 3D tile into Blender and laid out the main track. The Google Tiles contain all of the height data to a good enough level to get started but they are very dense meshes so they won't be used in the final track.

Anyway, I'll try to post progress here; now I've put it out into the world, I'll hopefully find the time and motivation to get it finished :)

Alternative to Renderdoc method is Blender OSM (blosm), works with Blender 3.5 (and maybe v3.6). Also look at Simplygon SDK from Microsoft for optimizing the google 3D mesh and combining the multiple texture tiles into one texture. This youtube video shows the process (installation process shown is overcomplicated - I just downloaded blosm and Simplygon and installed for Blender 3.5). I can't say which is the better workflow, as I have only just started looking into both the Renderdoc and blosm methods, but I don't think there is an easy way to get the Google 3D map tiles into Assetto Corsa - which is what I was hoping for.

Thanks for the additional info. I've used Blender OSM in the past, with mixed results. I would retopo the Google Maps data, just want it for the layout/elevations/building shapes.

Blender OSM needs a the Google 3D API key, which you need to provide a credit card for, and will be charged once you exceed a certain download limit... fyi.

Renderdoc doesnt

thats wrong, you dont need google, see docs of blenderOSM
OpenStreetMaps is its own ecosystem, completely independent from google.

edit: options for satelite images can also be different from google
at least on MapBox i know you can do with a free account

To get the Google 3D photogrammetry type of mesh like shown in the first post, yes you do

This is a really good idea. The track is one of the best in Germany and maybe Europe. Great fun to drive, and Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Heinz Harald Frentzen as well as Nick Heidfeld learned racing there.
I can´t wait for it :)
I hope you are still haven´t lost motivation on it... Otherwise, I have to do it ;-)

Have a good time!!! Greetz from Germany
