Do you mean an alternative to the Google orthopics? The geoserver does work nicely indeed but it's quite a handful to get going. It shouldn't be much more complicated than this plugin - but this one would need some improvements, mainly like proper coordinate translation to fit into the 'real world' (and memory usage)It certainly has been dormant! Apart from not having the time to do much of this at all lately, I decided it was much easier just to use geoserver and the Google maps override. The reason is, geoserver can read just about any file type and size and give me the data I want without me having to recode it all. So the only plugin I would really need might be a way to select an alternative to Google maps...
