Hi Everyone,
I wanted to introduce myself by starting this W.I.P thread for Montjuic Park Street Circuit that I am currently building. This thread is mostly for my own inspiration and accountability.
Though track mods of Montjuic Circuit have been made in GPLegends and RFactor (with great detail and hard work I will add!), I still plan to build this track from scratch. Although I've built a version in RTB, I was pretty unsatisfied at actually creating the magic of the Montjuic setting, so I will begin the hard work to learn blender and to complete what I truly believe will be a ripping-fast and fun street circuit track mod for Assetto Corsa. I know that I will need the community's help at many points, so I am grateful in advance for your help!
A very short bit of track context and history: Montjuic Circuit is a beautiful tour of Montjuic Park in Barcelona. start/finish stands just down the hill from the Olympic Stadium where a small jump and braking zone lead one into the lefthand hairpin. The driver then winds their way down through 2 hillside parks, a historic fountain and pops out onto the city streets below. Then tucking through the streets, between the theatre and museums, you'll pass the Magic Fountain and Art Museum of Catalunya before winding back up the hillside through wide and tremendously fast sweeping increasing radius turns, back to the start/finish.
Montjuic Circuit began hosting motorcycle racing in 1950 and hosted it's first F1 race in 1969. The track hosted the Spanish GP every other year until 1975 when a combination of poor track safety and a fatal accident (5 spectators killed near the jump!) ended it's F1 tenure. Ronnie Peterson set the fastest lap record during qualifying with a 1:21.8 in his Lotus 72e during the 1973 race weekend. Race winners at the 4 Spanish GPs held here are Jim Clark, Jackie Ickx, Emerson Fittipaldi and Jochen Mass in that order.
My initial thoughts are to provide two layouts - The 1969 version will be the historic and original layout with no chicanes or roundabout. The second version will be a modern version that includes fewer barriers, but with chicanes and the new roundabout that was added to the park. This was the featured layout at the 2012 Montjuic Revival and can be seen in the Porsche onboard below. If that second version is too slow or boring, I may change the positions of some of the chicanes, or perhaps a hybrid of the original that also includes the outside route around the roundabout... we'll have to see how it's tests out!
Here are some onboards to get you excited!
