I am a novice at AC car modelling; to date my successes are new liveries (skins) with Gimp, and changing wheel rims with SimED3D ("SED3") and KsE.
My next project is to turn a car from a coupe (the available car mod) into a convertible.
I used SED3 to isolate and export the body shell and high and low-res cockpits. I used sketchup to remove the roof from these objects, and repaired the resulting gaps in the body shell with new mesh. I substituted these three objects in the car's .fbx file using SED3, and converted it to a .kn5 file with KsE.
So far so good, the car actually loads into the CM Showroom on AC CM, and has the correct body style. My problem - and I expected this - is that that the skins/liveries do not load; the car is just jet-black in the CM showroom. Presumably the skins need to be modified as the car no longer has a roof, but there must be something else going on that the skins won't load, if only with issues caused by my removing the roof.
Bigger picture, I'm at a loss for how a skin maps to the car, particularly all of the various body parts, e.g., exhaust headers, lights, badges, etc., as nowhere do I see where these are mapped to the correct place on the car from the "skins.dds" file. Those "skins.dds" files are a mystery, like a puzzle and I've no idea how the images map to the car.
As you can see I don't really know what I'm doing and need help!
Thanks.
