2,5m x 0,90m x 1,20m can be is a kind of standard size.
But from all the photos I have of Goodwood they could be even bigger: At the moment I try 2,5m x 1,00m x 1,60m. Which seem to fit much better.
They stack the bales at Goodwood with metal stakes through them. I think a standard bale is 1ft tall by 1.5ft wide, so about 310mm tall and about 460mm deep. On that basis, if they use standard size bales, then I think they're stacked either 3 or 4 high.

Definitely not.
They certainly used to, but things may well have changed as it's been several years since I last went. The bales lining the course do not move when hit and they used to do that by putting wooden stakes behind them and metal stakes through the middle. Obviously, the ones in runoff areas are not staked.

I can see wooden stakes behind them in photos, but the bales themselves are monolites, I doubt that they are staked through the middle with metal stakes somehow, but oh well maybe... however it would be a very primitive way to reinforce them.

I've seen it with my own eyes, but things have changed dramatically with circuit safety in the last 10 years, so it may be different now. Stakes are cheap and simple to use, so I can see why they used to do it like that. I must return to FOS soon...

Ok, I moved the posts related to the other track. If you prefer, I can also move the hay bale discussion to its own thread (it has one linked to the 3d anyhow). Let me know if you'd like other posts separated. Anything to keep you happy and see those WIP screenies :D.

Thanks!

Well, If it's not too much work you can separate the hay bale discussion.

My goal is to reach at least the quality of the GT6 track.
Hahaha, I hear this is an ambitious goal ! I did not play it but when googling, there are some impressive shots in the "photo mode", but terrible shots in driving mode. At least with AC, what you see is what you get.

Anyway, good progress, thanks for the photos.

There are many awesome WIP projects in this site, but none was progressing well. Not everyone has hundreds of hours spare time so I feel like progress in most of these projects will be very hard to notice. But thats not a big problem, the big problem is when modder can't work anymore at all, or doesn't want to. And thats not very surprising, because complexity and standards are going up, and appreciation, respect, and warm welcoming is going down.

So I hope that at least some of these awesome projects will be released just the way they can be, and modders won't loose passion. I don't think any modder must bring their mods to top standard (of course it is better to, but it takes just so much), but I think it is a must to have essentials, the basics right, and it can be done.

Hey! I signed up just to comment here ;) But I love Goodwood, very pleased to see someone who wants to make my (and other FOS fans) live a bit brighter! Thanks for the effort! Since I found out the amount of high quality mods for AC I ditched Project CARS and went straight back to this game! Awesome and way better feeling while driving! Drifting is not my thing but with Assetto Corsa it is easier to come close!
