Noob modelling question

Hi All,

I've recently started working on a first AC mod. I'm learning pretty much everything as I'm going, trying to infer things I don't know, etc.

I'm still pretty new to 3d modeling as well and I was trying to figure out how to go about modelling the trim on a car.

I've looked at the wireframes in Content Manager and noticed there that the trim and the body are not part of the same "object". I'm now trying to figure out how to go about this in Blender.

Are body and trim still the same mesh when modelling? It seems like this would result in pinching on the body mesh, as the trim often has a much higher level of detail.
If they're separate meshes, do I need to make sure the vertices on the trim line up with the body mesh? Or can I just let the meshes cut through each other, without having to worry about some sort of artifacting?

A lot of models are splitt up by there materials. so chrome bits all together, leather all together. This is to cut down on draw calls for the 3d engine and help with materials. So depending on the model / car a part might be a separate object because of material settings. Best to have the parts line up. in 3d modeling you can snap the verts to each other without welding them. If the trim intersects it can create Z fighting and such issues. i use a few ways to check my results. 1. in the 3d program. 2. a render from the 3d prog. 3. KSeditor when i doing matts as well. 4. CM custom show room. 5. finally in game. Might be good to have some pics in the future as it could be good to see what you mean. Cheers.
