I wont tell a single lie. but pcars 2 is stealing my heart at present in a subtle way. Any other opinions out there negative or positive ?

I'm just blown away by the graphics engine. and the physics engine too along side the frame rates. whether the disparity between sim and sim-cade is getting smaller and smaller, or the mainstream is just catching up to the big guys Pcars2 seems to pack a punch in the gut of any of the so called upper end sims. in the long run this will make the likes of iracing and Assetto`s improve now the competition is gaining ground. so its all good.

the only genuine negative thing i can say is extremely comparative, and that compared to the titles without really any bells and whistles like pcars2, its simply does not carry the nuance the others do at this stage. my point being no other sims has what this has so nobody actually knows comparatively whats going on. so personally I'm waiting to find out whilst indulging in some pcars2.

I am more and more tempted to fall into the believers side :D. Can this be true ? I mean, I was a supporter for pC1 and then didn't like at all the feeling of the end product. But now I hear pC2 comparisons on the likes of "is this the new LFS ?" !!! That is no doubt a very catchy phrase for me, because LFS was the first "real" sim for me, and one of which I still love the physics today.

Do you own pC2 already Pix ? Did you actually played it ?

On the graphics side I have nothing to comment negatively. Even pC1 was really good in this aspect, and their weather and time of day system is utterly awesome for a RACING game.

I tried it as a sceptic. and today I bought it as a believer only in " I can have some good fun with this". this provides, safety ratings like IR. and it provides actual racing at any time of day, all day in pretty much any weather. holy shmoly man. that's not to be ignored as a sim racer. it may not be as refined, and it may take time to refine but you could have better immediate access fun in this than anything else. that's why GM refers to it as such.

hopefully all the other developers are watching, thinking `lets do it too`, but in our way. and we can see the more trusted sim titles doing it all in their own way. I mean give AC all this and I'm set for a long long time sim racing.

it doesn't seem to have any `awkward` architecture to be honest. very much jump in and play.

nothing has ever satisfied me in a sim more than wiping a few spots of rain away from the windshield, with a single flick of the wipers....:lol: LMAO why is that so important. Or visually seeing the puddle that truly fucked my race up.

weather wise, its way to hard core, most of the conditions are `red` flag conditions :lol:. I have been enjoying it though, its the same conditions for everyone :lol:.

watching gamer muscle last night and the last race in the snow with Caterham was interesting. some unique low speed physics going on. really nice.

This is very very interesting. And very unexpected for me. In fact, I had 0 expectations from pC2. In my mind it was : they're just gonna do what they want anyways and not really listen simracers. Now I must admit, you have planted a big doubt :D.

it is a strange one, and a lot of money to dump on something you might not like. but just look at this. this is with in game camera, the track cams are based on same thing. gorge` really, ending a race just after twilight is sublime.

as much as ive bought it straight away, id wait till xmas sales and grab it a bit cheaper and with all its patches.




graphically, everything else is stone age now I'm afraid :lol:

tonight I raced online. it seems I'm a demon in the wet. :lol:, but so many wonderful occasions were had on imola and laguna. probably the best most dynamic racing i`ve ever had tbh.

one crazy moment when the sky was blue but the water still standing and I got overtaken by a Ferrari on the inside that threw all its water on me, because I was on the outside whilst turning left and got sprayed from the side ....so I went off track because the wipers were not on anymore. it wasn't raining and it pissed me off in the heat of the moment. HAHA ! afterwards I realised how amazing that was..... so simple but it blew me away. also other points to note are the amazing physics when you are on the limit, hitting a kerb edge throws you around so convincingly. its really deep feeling when it gets it right. really good sense of building the car into the speed by warming it up, cant explain but when you drive like a madman it really treats you like one.

collisions seems to be a good part of the game too, seems very forgiving compared to other sims, but the other sims simply don't allow it in any way, in pc2 you can have no body work or paint left and it not affect your race in any considerable way. and that leaves touring cars racing being so fundamentally correct :)

damn! it is a sim (of sorts) and hell of a lot of random fun with so many more considerations. you can really tell what other drivers are doing and attempting to do whilst in car and before it even happens, the amount of leading drivers into late braking and hogging the track (and being able to react) is so superb. I'm glad ive bought this title I really am :) sometimes its hit and miss and just an average race, but like real life when it comes together its euphoric in some respects. I want to try endurance, I want my own server with realistic weather with the forecast from the track itself and real time night cycle. it can have a 24 hour practice session and 24 hour qualify session set before the race start which you`ve guessed it can be 24 hours.

oops I lied the only thing it doesn't have is a safety car. but the in game race director can slow the cars down, and well it can do everything else, it will even punish shitty driving haha.

I hope not becoming fan boy-ish, I`m just pointing out my experiences and the differences in what I knew sim racing was last week..

BTW this game has something I mentioned ages ago on main forums. a Fricken Race Director. that's commonly know as "Charley Whiting Mode" what that means is that you yourself can dish out the penalties at your whim, i believe like rfactor you can rewind the monitor live. it also allows a broadcaster to simply broadcast the race. its incredible. also it has full external functionality to allow integration with.. "insert minolin style stuff here" driven through its user interface. Ohh wait I see driver swap option too :lol:. everything you ever wanted functionality wise is right there. amazing it is.

did I forget to mention it can have ai and humans online at the same time....

yet another thing I love is.. as a single screen user we have to trade off the effects of speed if we align our fields of view correctly, distance to screen v screen size etc. pcars 2 does a dynamic system where it can change your fov depending on your braking and accelerating and also the speed you are travelling it. its very subtle when setup correct and its a really nice effect and a solution to something we just got on with before, or we got triple screens.

technologically its the most advanced thing out there seemingly. certainly the most feature rich. just like lfs was. I just hope to find a good league for it. which is not something ive ever considered before apart from in Lfs.

physics of these cars is not like in ac, the cars need warmed up so to speak. and then they need to settle in, its quite profound compared to ac. but its different, its a whole different opinion. Ac and its linked in feeling with the steering wheel and the front wheels directly is an opinion. one that has obviously been good, maybe too good sometimes compared to RL given there isn't normally a mechanical link like it expresses in ac. . but how can I say it, pc2 makes me feel like a human in a car and not part of the car itself. and I'm starting to like it a lot. there seems to be more techniques to driving possible and through it you can sense more adjustment of the car to the track, and beyond that into uncanny territory of ruining the car which is so easily possible.

nice review here worth a watch by The Empty Box. . I was scared to even watch this, maybe the only review worth considering. for me its confirmation about this title and its prowess that has beaten the scepticism surrounding it.



last night lilski and I found an amazing racing track.. Willow springs, what an amazing track, quite possibly my favourite American track now. the first road course in America, completely untouched by modern day standards and with a track flow that isn't seen anywhere else imo.

Ah yes, I remember WS, from pC1. I was loving the flow also, but I remember beeing impressed by the "atmosphere" against the fact that it's in the middle of frikin desert :). So you'd think, well there's not much to see. And yet.. :)

its keeping me up all night, and I'm no where near finished for the evening. 03:29 right now :lol:. Monaco at night time right now, cant stop racing.

this sim needs a government health warning on it.

successfully racing online just now with AI and friends in the states at the same time. in the same server. it WORKS ! ! ! the ping shows red for my Alabama frind , but its utterly stable. while not massing it out with to many cars.

I think I'm going to be doing lots of videos of this tbh. its mesmerising, of course its not like that in game with out the lens based camera mode but its equally mesmerising. using SMAA instead of the main MSAA, SMAA being post processed, so can can still see some jaggy edges. still nice though. and frame are much better.

here a deep purple light shines over the track and brings the warmth out in the shot. so lovely I think.


used film grain on this one on the lens to replicate low level light and also actual chromatic aberration mingling with the bokeh causing focus issues! amazing to be able to do this like old cameras. to some this may look like just a night shot but if you look very closely hopefully you can see whats going on, I guess if we had atmospheric effects I wouldn't have even needed the grain.



more importantly about these screens is that it genuinely is `photography` just like from the real world and like wise the real world or in this case the ingame aspect, is equally as boring in comparison. :lol:. loosely transferable skill into real photography that tool is. on a simple levels. but its no canon 7d or 5d etc. but that's where I learned to do what you see above.... in the future I wouldn't rule out these lens company's involvement in the gaming industry to replicate their exact lenses. just like in photoshop you can load a profile to fix the camera lens distortions.

other notable lens based screenshots(not from me) ive seen around that seem quite unique. could use this for car marketing and PR :lol:.

Absolutely fantastic. Damn, they really seem to have nailed the graphical side. The lightning looks better than in many non-real-time renders. Incredible. Gotta love the days we're living :nerd:
